These are some good utilities for measuring performance and trouble-shooting any connection. Go to their web site, download and install these tools (they are shareware) and check the results.
There are two types of tools. Some like DU Meter and TCP Manager measure the Download and Upload Speed of to your computer. This is useful if you have a DSL, ISDN or Frame Relay connection and want to get an idea of the actual transfer rate that you are using. The second type of tool, Traces the Route that your packets are taking to the Internet. This is a useful for determining where slowness can be occurring to certain sites on an otherwise fast connection.
Download a 5MByte test file (dummy file) from a Junctionbox server. If you're a Junctionbox user, this file is a good test, because you don't have to worry about slowness due to traffic on the Internet.
These test uses the Internet; intervening paths may limit performance.
